Summer Hothouse is an exhibition that focuses on the drawn image and the unique results that can be achieved when artists put a contemporary spin on a traditional technique. Conversely, a surprising amount of commonality appears despite the geographically and stylistic separation of these three artists.

Mitchell Wiebe is a painter from Halifax, Nova Scotia, recently on a painting residency in a cold war bomb shelter in Debert, NS.  He has exhibited in solo shows in Halifax and Victoria, and in group shows at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Dalhousie University Art Gallery and as part of the Oh, Canada! retrospective show at Mass MoCA.

Martin Hyde, based in Lausanne, Switzerland is an artist fluent in many disciplines. Martin has produced drawings, paintings, video, ceramics and installations. One of his vases’ was recently added to the collection of the Musee de Design et D’Arts Appliques Contemporains (MUDAC) in Lausanne Switzerland. Martin has begun producing porcelain plates after studying the craft in China. His plates have been exhibited in New York and will be featured in an exhibition in Brussels later this year.

Anna Williams is an Ottawa based artist with a practice that incorporates sculpture drawing and installation. She has been awarded numerous public art commissions by the city of Ottawa as well as Toronto and Montreal. She has exhibited extensively with recent shows at Karsh Mason in Ottawa and Eastern Edge in St. John's.This year Anna received a Canada Council Project Grant to pursue an ambitious new installation work.
