LandMarks 2017 Artist Michael Belmore - video
One of the most ambitious arts projects undertaken to date, LandMarks2017 is a nationwide initiative that brings together a team of acclaimed Canadian curators, contemporary artists and students from 17 universities across the country to create a series of art projects in 20 selected locations in Canada's National Parks and Historic sites.
Artist Michael Belmore's Coalescence will be installed permanently at four locations, beginning at Cape Merry, Prince of Wales Fort National Historic Site in Churchill (MB) and moving to The Forks National Historic Site (MB), Riding Mountain National Park (MB) and finally Grasslands National Park (SK). Travelling June 10-25, 2017, its arrivals and departures will be marked with events at each location.
Transcript:
My piece is very much about glacial tail and shorelines, and the weathering of stone. Dealing with the issues of time and the experience of time.
So, people can view it or experience it but also that experience is very fleeting.
The stones that I carve will be copper leafed and they will shine brilliantly for, maybe two years, ad then they’ll sort of fall back into the wilderness, or the ground, and rest.
Which I think is really exciting.
