Hard to Look At

October 9th to November 21st, 2014

Vernissage Thursday October 9th 7-11pm

This exhibition draws together 3 Canadian artists; Tammi Campbell, Neil Harrison, and Kristiina Lahde, all working well beyond what one would describe as a contemporary modernist revival. Each has found a succinct way, through their work, to talk about form and function. The tie that binds these artists is referenced in the exhibition title “Hard To Look At” a nod to hard-edged or ruled work (the practice of using rulers, straight edges, tape measures and masking tape to produce a defined edge). The approach each artist has taken ranges from theoretical to literal.  By applying the practice of hard-edged work combined with an unconventional use of materials these artists have forged a new direction in Canadian art, all the while referencing the past.
